Spinal Cord Transection In Xenopus laevis Tadpoles

نویسندگان

چکیده

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a permanent affliction, which affects the central nervous system (CNS) motor and sensory nerves, resulting in paralysis beneath site. To date, there no functional recovery therapy for SCI, lack of clarity regarding many complexes dynamic events occurring after SCI. Many non-mammalian organisms can regenerate severe such as teleost fishes, urodele amphibians, larval stages anuran including Xenopus laevis tadpoles. These are bona fide model to study understand response SCI mechanisms underlying successful regenerative processes. This type research lead identification potential targets therapeutic intervention. article describes how perform tadpole spinal transection, husbandry, surgery, postsurgery care, test evaluation. method be applied elucidating different steps regeneration by studying cellular, molecular, genetic mechanisms, well histological evolution during regeneration.

Spinal cord transection in the larval zebrafish.

Mammals fail in sensory and motor recovery following spinal cord injury due to lack of axonal regrowth below the level of injury as well as an inability to reinitiate spinal neurogenesis. However, some anamniotes including the zebrafish Danio rerio exhibit both sensory and functional recovery even after complete transection of the spinal cord. The adult zebrafish is an established model organis...

Tissue calcium levels following spinal cord transection in rats.

Adult rats were subjected to midthoracic spinal cord transections. Three segments of spinal cord, each approximately 5 mm in length, were removed from each animal at intervals from 5 min to 48 h postlesion; one from the lesion site and one each immediately rostral and caudal to the transection. Total tissue calcium concentrations ([Ca]t) for each spinal cord segment were determined using atomic...

T8 spinal cord transection in a 6-year-old child

STUDY DESIGN  Case report. OBJECTIVE  To describe a case of spinal cord transection in a 6-year-old child. BACKGROUND INFORMATION  Non-missile injury of the spinal cord is not common and its incidence varies according to the country. In addition, to our knowledge, there are no published reports of spinal cord injury (SCI) from a penetrating nail. Here, we report the case of a child who deve...

Transection of the spinal cord in developing Xenopus laevis.

INTRODUCTION T H E literature on regeneration in the central nervous system of vertebrates has been reviewed exhaustively by Windle (1955, 1956). Adult fish and urodeles reestablish physiological and anatomical continuity of the spinal cord after it has been completely transected while adult anurans (Piatt & Piatt, 1958) and mammals on the whole do not. In all groups of vertebrates regeneration...

Regeneration of axons in transection of the carp spinal cord.

Axonal regeneration in the central nervous system (CNS) was investigated in the fine structural and histochemical aspects using carp spinal cord, which was completely transected at the level of the dorsal fin. Fusion of the transection region and the regeneration of axons already began to be recognized 26 days after operation by electron microscopy. At 115 days after operation, the rostral and ...
